Back on BiPAP - Moved back to Hospice

Cannula just wasn't getting her enough O2. Talked to Dr Aqularia (sp) and decided to go back to Hospice. At 5 PM said good by to the ICU West.

BiPAP off - now on Nasal Cannula

Took off the BiPAP mask and put on a nasal cannula. Can barely talk.

Extubated again

They took out the breathing tube about Noon. She is breathing OK on her own for now. She's on BiPAP mask.

Praise God!

In ICU after Surgery

Tried to Extubate - did not breath well on her own. 10 minutes later they re-intubated her.

Hip Surgery - Five and a Half Hours

She seems to be holding on.

ICU and Infection worsens

A Bad Night

Trudie's blood pressure dropped dangerously low last night. Her nurse - Hazel (a guy - I think) had doctors up all night.

ICU

Today, her nurse Dorrell had her evaluated by the ICU Resp. PA, Dylan. He called his boss, Dr Steven Accarino, who said that she needed the additional monitoring and help in ICU.

New tumors

Dr Accarino also showed me new lisions in her lung. The cancer seems to be more aggressive than initially thought.

Infection

Dr Mitchell Blass, Infectious Disease, said that the germ was growing a culture. He said that while they had not definitive that it was gram-negative rod bacterium. From wikipedia:

The proteobacteria are a major group of Gram-negative bacteria, including Escherichia coli, Salmonella, and other Enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonas, Moraxella, Helicobacter, Stenotrophomonas, Bdellovibrio, acetic acid bacteria, Legionella and alpha-proteobacteria as Wolbachia and many others. Other notable groups of Gram-negative bacteria include the cyanobacteria, spirochaetes, green sulfur and green non-sulfur bacteria.

She is fighting it.

IVC Filter and Infection

IVC Filter

The radiologist installed an IVC Filter into Trudie's groin. This will prevent any embolizing pelets from reaching her heart/brain.

Infection

Trudie came down with a fever today about 11 AM. I asked what the reading was and at 6 PM it was 102F. They have taken cultures and will fight with antibiotics tonight.

MRI shows fractured Left Hip

Reddy reports that there is a fracture of the left hip. They plan on fixing it on next Wednesday (10/24). She will probably be in the hospital for two or three days and then to home therapy or acute rehab.

Dr. Hoadley removed her spleen. He said it was four times the normal size. She was in recovery for six hours.

Went to see Dr Reddy at Cumming office. She is complaining of great increase in pain since Monday's four-appointment day.

He swithched her slow release pain medicine to Fen patch. We stopped the Oxycotton and applied the patch at 8 PM.

MRI attempt

Tried to get MRIs of her lumbar back and legs. She has uncontrollable twitching and cannot set still long enough to get clear images. We setup for a return try on Tuesday afternoon.

Transfusion

Millie and Drew took Millie to get two units of whole blood at Atlanta Cancer Care - Northside Hospital

Saw Dr Reddy. Told about intense leg pain. He ordered she get type and cross-matched for blood transfusion.

Got home and was visited by Home Health Nurse Beth Barber [clothes stank!]. Trudie in very intense leg pain.

Called Dr Reddy again and he said to give her two Loritabs and to double her Oxycotton to 80 mg twice a day.

Dr Morrision - four week post-back op

We told Dr Morrison about the intense shooting pain in her leg now. He will order an MRI.

I will try to find the MRI that Dr. Arias did for her uterus.

Dr Hoadley

He wanted her to get her immunizations updated. We went to Atlanta Cancer Care center and got the shots (three). Meningococcal Polysaccharide Diphtheria Toxoid Conjugate Vaccine, Pneumococcal Vaccine, and Haemophilus influenzae type b Conjugate Vaccine.

He also set the splenctomy at Wed-next, 10/17.

He also said that she will keep her PICC line for now. He won't put in the "port" until her first chemo.

Dr Reddy - first post OP appt

Saw Dr Reddy. he upped her Oxycotton from 20mg twice a day to 40 mg twice a day. He also upped her Loritab

Made followup appointments with Dr Morrison and Dr Hoadley.

Was discharged from North Fulton Hospital Rehab Center.

Came home with 20 prescriptions.

Trudie received a new transfusion and was transferred to No. Fulton Rehab Unit for acute physical rehab.
